The Fremont Unified School District serves approximate 32,000 students in kindergarten through grade 12 and approximately 20,000 adult students. There are 28 elementary schools, five junior high schools, five comprehensive high schools, a continuation high school, several alternative secondary programs, a charter school and a special education preschool.
Fremont schools are consistently among the highest achieving in California as measured by the state Academic Performance Index (API). The district API growth score for 2004-05 was 833, with 61 percent of our schools earned a base API this year of 800 or above. Also, 11 of our schools earned an API above 900. A score of 800 is considered to rank a school or district in the state's "High Achieving" category. In addition, 16 FUSD schools have been designated as California Distinguished Schools and seven have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools.

The California School for the Blind is supported by state funding and provides programs and resources for eligible students throughout the state of California. Silicon Valley College is a private, associate degree granting institution committed to providing quality career-oriented education for the community. Northwestern Polytechnic University is non-profit organization offering high-tech engineering programs. WyoTech is a private, associate degree granting institution. De Vry University is a degree-granting, international higher-education system which opened its Fremont campus in 1998.
