The Fremont area features a variety of things to do and wonderful places to explore. Whatever your age or interests, there is something to see in and around Fremont. Just a few examples include the annual Fremont Festival of the Arts during the first weekend in August; the Farmers Markets in Centerville and Irvington; Ardenwood Historic Farm and Patterson House; the Centerville Train Depot; and the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton. Central Park and Lake Elizabeth offer walking paths and boating, among many other activities.
Alameda County Fair is one of the largest annual events in Alameda County. The County Fair celebrates the past through agricultural, livestock and commercial exhibits, entertainment on four stages, carnival rides, and a special Kids Carnival Area. Alameda Creek Regional Trail is a 12 mile linear park that follows the banks of the Alameda Creek from the mouth of Niles Canyon west to the San Francisco Bay. The trail can be accessed from Coyote Hills Regional Park, the Niles Community Center, and several principal streets in between. Ardenwood Historic Farm and Patterson House is a 208 acre working Victorian - era farm where visitors can board a horse drawn train or a pioneer wagon and watch the farm staff recreate 19th-century ranch activities. Annual events include the Gathering of the Scottish Clans, the May Fete, the Civil War event, the Celtic Festival, Fire Truck Day, an Independence Day celebration, the Summer Farm Fair in July, a Harvest Festival, the Cayjun Zydeco Festival, and an old fashioned Christmas celebration. Centerville Train Depot Located at 37260 Fremont Boulevard., the Centerville Train Depot is one of the remaining "No. 23" style train depots constructed by Southern Pacific between 1896 and 1916, and the only one used in rail passenger service today. 
Central Park & Lake Elizabeth is 450 acres and includes Lake Elizabeth, lighted tennis courts, lighted softball fields, a Skate Park and a dog park. Charlie Chaplin & Essanay Studio Day Charlie Chaplin, who filmed his renown "The Tramp" at Essanay Studio in Niles, is memorialized each June during Charlie Chaplin and Essanay Studio Day. Coyote Hills Regional Park is the perfect place to learn about nature and local history on 976 acres. Four Ohlone Indian shell mound sites and a recreated Ohlone village are located within the park. The park offers panoramic vistas of the San Francisco Bay, and the 3.5 mile paved Bay View Trail connects to 12 miles of paths along the south levee of the Alameda Creek and the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is home to seven endangered and threatened species and thousands of shorebirds. This 21,000 acre refuge is the premier place to learn about the San Francisco Bay environment. The refuge features 30 miles of hiking trails, a fishing pier and two information centers. The main entrance is at #1 Marshlands Road.

Fremont Art Association Gallery is a cooperative gallery, located at 37659 Niles Boulevard. that exhibits many local artists. Fremont Festival of the Arts is held the first weekend in August. As the largest free outdoor festival in California, the Fremont Festival covers four walking miles in central Fremont, hosts over 700 artisans, features 30 food booths hosted by local non-profit associations, celebrates music, and is home to the Firefighter Combat Challenge. Fremont Symphony Orchestra performs concerts in the Gary Soren Smith Center for the Fine and Performing Arts at Ohlone College from September to May. Higuera Adobe is located at the foot of Mission Peak in the Warm Springs area of Fremont. Higuera Adobe is the last of seven adobes built in 1840 on the ranch of Fulgencio Higuera, one of the area's first Spanish settlers. Tours are offered by appointment - call (510) 657-6848.

Las Posadas Celebration Beginning nine nights before Christmas, Fremont and neighboring communities recreate Mary and Joseph's trip to Bethlehem. The candlelight procession begins at the historic Mission San Jose and the event culminates with a celebration at the Mission. Call (510) 657 -1797.

Mission Peak Regional Reserve Mission and Monument's 2,517 - foot peak creates the eastern backdrop for Fremont. Mission Peak's 2,998 acres are accessible from a staging area at the east end of Stanford Avenue in Fremont, which also serves as the western access to the 29-mile Ohlone Wilderness Trail, and from parking lots at Ohlone College. A trail also leads from Mission Peak to Monument Peak, two miles south. The Bay Area Ridge Trail also leaves south from Mission Peak to a trailhead in Ed Levin Park near Milpitas.

Niles Canyon Heritage Railway Restored trains offer one-hour trips through scenic Niles Canyon on the first and third Sunday of each month. Niles Christmas Open House and Tree Lighting Ceremony is sponsored by the Niles Merchants Association. This event begins on Friday with entertainment, rides through downtown, and Santa Claus - who will light the tree, take photos with the kid's, and share refreshments. Niles Depot Museum was saved from demolition by a move in 1982 and restored to its original site. The museum houses a large collection of railroad artifacts and a large-scale model railroad layout. Old Mission San Jose and Museum is the only California mission in the East Bay. Founded in 1797 at the foot of Mission Peak near the early route to the San Joaquin Valley and the Mother Lode Mines to the south, the original adobe mission was almost entirely destroyed by an 1868 earthquake. The original building now houses a museum of Ohlone and Mission history and is located at the intersection of Washington and Mission Boulevards. The adobe church was authentically reconstructed in 1985. Group tours can be arranged by calling (510) 657-1797.

Shinn Historical Park is a five-acre park, located at 1251 Peralta Boulevard. that features trees, rare plants, and shrubs collected by pioneer and nurseryman James Shinn. An authentically furnished 1876 redwood Victorian ranch house is filled with memorabilia. The park is open daily, 8 a.m. to dusk April through September.

Sunol - Ohlone Regional Wilderness is a 16,600-acre wilderness that provides more than 35 miles of hiking and equestrian trails, eleven individual campsites and three group campsites. The 29-mile Ohlone Wilderness Trail (permit and backpacking reservations required) extends from Mission Peak in Fremont through Sunol and Ohlone Wilderness areas to Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore.
